FIREFIGHTING operations at Selangor Wholesale Market in Seri Kembangan have entered the overhaul phase after the blaze was completely extinguished at 6.20am today

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) State Operations Assistant Director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the focus had now shifted to conducting a thorough inspection of the site to ensure the area was completely safe.

"An excavator is also being awaited to clear and remove debris from the collapsed remains to ensure that no victims are trapped.

"Fire forensic officers have also arrived," he said in a brief statement this morning.

Earlier, JBPM reported that firefighters faced significant risks while battling the blaze due to the presence of around 2,000 methane gas cylinders inside the affected premises.

Several explosions occurred during the early stages of the operation, but the situation was successfully brought under control.

The massive fire destroyed a metal goods business premises within the Selangor Wholesale Market area in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.

The flames also spread to several nearby premises but were prevented from reaching the main market building. - July 24, 2026
