The Dewan Rakyat is to focus on key national security and public safety concerns - October 6, 2026

MATTERS surrounding the influx of Myanmar nationals, persistent safety threats against students in schools, and diplomatic measures to address cross-border haze will highlight proceedings during today's Dewan Rakyat sitting.

According to the Parliamentary Order Paper, Suhaizan Kaiat (PH-Pulai) will direct a question to the Prime Minister during the Minister's Question Time regarding the government’s comprehensive strategy to resolve the long-standing presence of Myanmar refugees and asylum seekers, an issue drawing heightened public anxiety.

Concurrently, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah (PN-Indera Mahkota) will press the Prime Minister to explain the recurring safety breaches targeting students across educational institutions despite established government security protocols.

Border security and civil aviation safety will also come under scrutiny as Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu) seeks a progress report from the Home Minister on the 17 national security recommendations proposed to tighten risk management and passenger screening at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and other entry points.

Environmental concerns form another major pillar of today's Order Paper, with Datuk Yusuf Abd Wahab (GPS-Tanjong Manis) questioning the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability on specific legal, administrative, and diplomatic steps undertaken to mitigate recurring cross-border haze impacting Sarawak.

In legislative business, the sitting will mark the first reading of the Supply Bill 2027 by the Finance Minister, alongside the second reading of the Sports Development (Amendment) Bill 2026 by the Youth and Sports Minister.

The current parliamentary sitting forms part of the Third Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament, scheduled to run for 37 days until 8 December. - October 6, 2026
