POLICE investigating the fatal beating of schoolgirl Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal have seized a mobile phone, a set of clothing, and a pair of slippers from a 16-year-old suspect.

Johor Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad confirmed that the local teenager, who has no prior criminal record, was taken into custody in Yong Peng at 7 pm on Saturday by a joint team from the Johor Contingent Criminal Investigation Department and Batu Pahat District Police.

The operation followed an urgent public report received at 5.50 pm on October 3 regarding a teenage girl found unconscious and covered in blood inside a secondary school hall.

Medical personnel dispatched to the scene pronounced the victim dead after finding severe trauma and physical injuries across her head and body.

The Batu Pahat Magistrate’s Court has granted a six-day remand order against the suspect, effective from October 4 until October 9, to facilitate ongoing murder investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code. - October 4, 2026
