SEVEN locations across Malaysia—six in Johor and one in Sarawak—recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 7am today.
Data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal revealed that the affected areas in Johor include Batu Pahat and Segamat, both registering the highest reading of 153, followed by Kluang (150), Pasir Gudang (149), Larkin (148), and Tangkak (142). In Sarawak, Samarahan recorded an unhealthy reading of 152.
A total of 57 areas logged moderate API levels across the country, including Shah Alam (90), Kuala Terengganu (64), Alor Setar (57), Nilai (97), as well as Cheras, Johan Setia, and Putrajaya, which each recorded 88.
Elsewhere in Sarawak, moderate air quality was reported in Kuching (94), Sri Aman (98), and IPD Serian (99).
Meanwhile, three areas maintained good air quality levels: Sandakan (48), Langkawi (36), and Kangar (34).
An API reading between 0 and 50 denotes good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings exceeding 300 indicate hazardous conditions. - October 4, 2026
