A MOTORCYCLIST, believed to be intoxicated, rode against the flow of traffic and crashed into two participants of the Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) 2026 on Jalan Munshi Abdullah on Saturday.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, stated that the incident occurred around 6:15 am while the road was closed for the event.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the motorcyclist and his pillion rider—a 19-year-old male—had bypassed the road closure marked by traffic cones.

"The rider was ordered to stop by police personnel who were manning the road closure.

"However, the rider allegedly attempted to flee by riding against the flow of traffic before colliding with two marathon participants who were running," he said in a statement.

Mohd Zamzuri said that as a result of the accident, a 50-year-old female participant sustained neck injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Prince Court.

"Another participant, a 41-year-old male, suffered injuries to his right knee and hand.

"A preliminary alcohol screening on the rider returned a positive result, with an EBA reading of 164mg/100ml," he said.

He stated that the rider and the pillion rider were subsequently taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for blood and urine sampling as part of the ongoing investigation.

“The case is being investigated under Section 44(1A)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 186 of the Penal Code," he said.

According to him, the motorcyclist has been remanded for three days from October 3 to 5, while the pillion rider has been remanded for two days until October 4.

"Both have been remanded at the Dang Wangi Police Station lock-up to assist with the investigation.

"Members of the public or witnesses with relevant information are urged to come forward and assist the investigation by contacting the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station," he said. – October 3, 2026
