THE government has established the Cabinet Committee to empower the use and purchase of local products to accelerate the ‘JOM Beli Produk Malaysia’ (JOM MALAYSIA) initiative and encourage greater adoption of Malaysian-made goods and services.

The initiative marks a transformation of the Buy Malaysian Products Campaign (KBBM) and the Buy Malaysian-Made Products Campaign, which have been promoting local products since 1984.

Launched on 27 June 2026 at Pasar Seni, Kuala Lumpur, JOM MALAYSIA is designed as a national movement to strengthen awareness, participation and collective responsibility in promoting, using and purchasing local products through a whole-of-nation approach.

The initiative was further expanded through the JOM MALAYSIA Festival held at the Sandakan Sports Complex, Sabah, from 24 to 26 July 2026, as part of efforts to bring the campaign to communities nationwide.

The festival provided a platform to enhance cooperation between government agencies, the private sector, micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the public in advancing the local product agenda.

More than 100 local entrepreneurs, industry players and strategic partners participated in the three-day event, which featured product promotions, sales opportunities and business networking activities.

The festival also included government policy and programme exhibitions, PMKS sales booths, the MADANI RAHMAH Sales Programme (PJRM), as well as entertainment and community sports activities.

The Sandakan event reflected strategic collaboration between the Federal Government and the Sabah Government in driving efforts to increase awareness, usage and purchasing of Malaysian products.

Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the Cabinet Committee was approved during the Cabinet meeting on 15 July 2026 to strengthen coordination among ministries and government agencies while providing clearer direction for expanding the promotion, domestic sales and export potential of local products.

“The committee will also focus on reducing import dependency by creating a stronger ecosystem that enables Malaysian products to compete more effectively in domestic and international markets.”

It will be chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, while the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will serve as the secretariat.

Amirzan added the committee would strengthen the JOM MALAYSIA movement through four key transformation pillars.

The first pillar positions JOM MALAYSIA as a national movement rooted in economic patriotism, with local products and services recognised as important contributors to national economic growth. The second pillar adopts a whole-of-nation approach by bringing together government agencies, industry players, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and consumers as key stakeholders in promoting Malaysian products.

The third pillar expands the scope of local products beyond physical goods to include a broader range of Malaysian offerings, including services. The fourth pillar focuses on expanding market reach by positioning JOM MALAYSIA not only as a campaign encouraging Malaysians to support local products, but also as a platform to introduce Malaysian brands to tourists and international consumers.

Through this approach, local businesses will have greater opportunities to move beyond domestic markets and establish stronger positions in global markets.

“The establishment of the Cabinet Committee would help align policies, strategies and implementation efforts across all levels while developing a supportive ecosystem to ensure Malaysian products become the preferred choice among consumers and remain competitive internationally,” Amirzan added. - July 25, 2026
