KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia again breached the 2,000 mark with 2,027 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing total active infections in the country to 22,887.
Of the new cases today, 16 are imported.
The country also recorded eight deaths, bringing the death toll to 509.
Seven of the nine victims were Malaysians.
Meanwhile, Selangor recorded the highest daily infections today at 509, followed by Johor (437), Sabah (383), Kuala Lumpur (319), Negri Sembilan (98), Penang (60), Kedah (47), Kelantan (42), Labuan (37), Pahang (25), Perak (25), Melaka (21), Sarawak (14), Terengganu (13), and Putrajaya (13).
Perlis detected zero cases.
As for recoveries, the Health Ministry recorded 1,221 cases, bringing the total to 99,449.
With regards to clusters, 11 new ones were detected today.
Two were recorded in the Petaling district – Jalan Playar and Sri Suria clusters.
These clusters emerged after the targeted screening of factory workers that saw a total of 85 infections.
Hulu Langat also detected two clusters – Tapak Bukit Semenyih and Bukit Angkat.
The Bukit Semenyih cluster was reported after a targeted screening of a construction site that detected 17 cases, while Bukit Angkat, through the targeted screening of a factory, recorded 25 cases.
The Parit Jamil cluster, involving a worksite in Muar, detected 62 cases.
The Tombovo cluster in Putatan, Sabah, through the screening of individuals with symptoms, saw 18 infections.
The Jalan Desa construction site cluster in Lembah Pantai has 116 infections.
The Jalan Raja cluster involving Lembah Pantai, Cheras, Titiwangsa and Kepong, through a targeted screening of a mall, has 25 cases.
The Langit Selatan cluster in Kuantan, Pahang recorded nine infections, while the Bah Sayap cluster in Miri found five.
The Mengkuang cluster in Marang and Kuala Nerus, Terengganu recorded 10 Covid-19 cases. – The Vibes, January 5, 2021
