A BOMB threat that triggered the evacuation of Centrepoint South Tower at Mid Valley City has been confirmed as a hoax after police found no explosive devices or suspicious objects during a security inspection.

Brickfields District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said police received a report on the incident at 8.17pm yesterday from the building's security manager, who informed authorities that an email had been received claiming that a bomb had been planted at the premises.

"Acting on the threat, the building was immediately evacuated as a safety precaution.

"At approximately 10.30pm, the Police Bomb Disposal Unit (UPB) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) K9 Unit conducted a detailed inspection at the location of the reported threat," he said in a statement early this morning.

Hoo said the comprehensive search found no explosives, suspicious objects or bomb-related equipment at the building.

Initial investigations indicated that the threat was likely a false email sent with the intention of causing fear and disrupting public safety.

"The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 507 of the Penal Code," he said.

Earlier, images and reports of the evacuation at Centrepoint South Tower, Mid Valley City, had circulated on social media following claims of a bomb threat at the building. - July 30, 2026
