THE Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) is prioritising the implementation of recently secured foreign investment commitments to ensure they translate into new jobs, stronger industries and sustainable economic growth over the next two to three years.
Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said Malaysia's aggressive efforts to attract foreign investors had yielded positive results, and the ministry's immediate priority was now to ensure every committed project proceeds according to plan.
He said MITI was maintaining continuous engagement with investors to resolve implementation issues and ensure investment commitments were converted into operational projects.
“To realise these investments, MITI continues to engage with investors who come to our country. There is no point in successfully attracting investors if, in the end, the investments cannot be implemented.
“So, what we need to do is develop strategies by assessing the country's strengths and weaknesses. If there are strengths that can be leveraged, we must optimise them as quickly as possible.
“At the same time, if there are weaknesses, we must identify and address them so they do not become obstacles to the implementation of investments,” he said after officiating the Titiwangsa Snooker Championship 2026 Datuk Johari Ghani Cup in Kuala Lumpur.
Johari said the successful execution of investment projects would have a direct impact on Malaysians by creating quality employment opportunities, encouraging technology transfer, strengthening domestic supply chains and generating new business prospects for local companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises.
He added that ensuring investments materialise would also reinforce investor confidence in Malaysia, paving the way for further high-value investments and supporting the country's long-term industrial competitiveness.
Johari stressed that attracting investment commitments was only the first step, with the real measure of success being the timely implementation of projects that deliver tangible economic returns.
MITI will continue working closely with investors and relevant government agencies to remove bottlenecks, capitalise on Malaysia's competitive strengths and address structural weaknesses that could hinder investment execution over the coming years. - August 1, 2026
