BUKIT Aman will send a team of investigators to Jakarta next week to work with Indonesian authorities in tracing the network behind a drug smuggling case involving a Malaysian pilot.

The Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) team will be in Indonesia from Aug 11 to 15 as part of efforts to gather more information on the syndicate believed to be linked to the case.

NCID director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said investigators would look into the source of the drugs, the syndicate’s operations and the possible connections between the suspect and drug networks in Indonesia.

“We want to examine the entire chain, from where the supply came from, who was involved, how the suspect managed to pass security checks at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), and the links with syndicates in Indonesia,” he said when contacted.

The move comes as Malaysian and Indonesian authorities continue investigations into the 39-year-old pilot, who was arrested at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport after allegedly attempting to smuggle about 25kg of drugs into Indonesia.

Hussein said Malaysia would not seek to extradite the suspect, as he would first have to face the legal process in Indonesia.

“No extradition request has been made. We will continue receiving updates from the Indonesian National Police (Polri), but the suspect must undergo the legal process there,” he said.

Separately, police have recorded statements from two Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel at KLIA as part of efforts to determine how the suspect allegedly managed to get through airport security.

Hussein said no arrests had been made involving the two personnel, with initial investigations showing they had no direct links to the suspect.

Police are also looking into a possible connection between the pilot’s case and the arrest of another Malaysian man, aged 22, at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya.

Hussein said investigations into the Surabaya case had been complicated by the syndicate’s alleged use of third-party identities to register phone numbers and operate through social media platforms to avoid detection. – August 6, 2026
