PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has successfully undergone elective laparoscopic surgery to treat an abdominal hernia.

Chief Medical Team member Datuk Dr Asri Ranga Abdullah Ramaiah said the procedure to treat Anwar’s para-umbilical hernia was performed successfully by a team of medical specialists.

“He is currently undergoing physiotherapy and remains under the supervision of the medical specialist team to ensure that his recovery progresses well,” he said in a statement today.

Earlier, the Prime Minister’s Senior Press Secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, said Anwar was undergoing a medical examination and procedures prescribed by his specialist medical team.

He said Anwar was expected to remain under medical observation for two days.

“Let us pray that all matters relating to the Prime Minister’s medical examination and procedures are eased and that he is blessed with lasting good health so that he can resume his duties as usual in the near future, God willing,” he said. - August 10, 2026
