PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has filed a defamation suit against PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man over allegations that he abused his position to influence police investigations and interfered in royal affairs.
The suit, filed at the High Court through Messrs SN Nair & Partners, concerns remarks made by Tuan Ibrahim in political speeches and social media postings in which he allegedly accused Anwar of political persecution and meddling in constitutional and traditional processes.
The action centres on remarks made during a political rally at Felda Jenderak Utara, Kuala Krau, on June 14, which were subsequently circulated online.
Anwar has firmly denied the allegations, saying he had never instructed or influenced law enforcement agencies to target political opponents or individuals merely for criticising him or the government.
“Plaintiff has never directed, influenced or caused the Royal Malaysia Police to investigate or take action against any individual merely because that individual criticised the plaintiff, the government or any member of its administration,” the statement of claim read.
The Prime Minister also denied allegations that he had interfered, directly or indirectly, in the constitutional or customary process for selecting the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
According to court documents, the alleged defamatory remarks were subsequently amplified through various online platforms.
Among them was an 11-minute video uploaded on June 15 to the YouTube channel “@Malaysianometry”, titled “Tuan Ibrahim: Pengulas bola direhatkan lepas sertai PAS, ini tanda-tanda PH nak mampus”.
The video had garnered more than 20,000 views, 482 likes and 65 comments before the suit was filed, according to the court documents.
The content was subsequently circulated through Tuan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page and the “PAS Pahang” social media platform on June 24.
Anwar claims the statements were published maliciously and without factual basis, causing serious damage to his reputation in his capacities as Prime Minister, Finance Minister, PKR president, Pakatan Harapan chairman and Member of Parliament for Tambun.
He is seeking an injunction preventing Tuan Ibrahim and his representatives from repeating the alleged defamatory claims, as well as an order requiring the immediate removal of the related online postings.
The suit also seeks general, aggravated and exemplary damages. - August 11, 2026
