KUALA LUMPUR – PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang is reportedly trying very hard to keep allies Bersatu and Umno from completely breaking ties.
The Star, quoting a source, reported that the PAS leader is a man on a mission, trying to keep the Malay triumvirate intact.
Some 75% of Umno grassroots and warlords are pushing the party’s leadership to sever ties with splinter party Bersatu.
Their stance has been made public since Umno’s recent slew of its divisions’ annual general meetings.
“But Hadi does not want this to happen as he feels it is important for all Malay-based parties to stay united,” the source was quoted as saying.
Hadi, he added, is trying to broker a truce between the two warring parties to keep the political cooperation alive.
Another source linked to Umno told the paper that not all leaders are in agreement on the Bersatu break-up.
“There is a big plan by one segment of Umno to bring back former leaders who other party members regard as being tainted.
“So, because of this, they are backing Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who incidentally happens to be Bersatu president.” – The Vibes, January 6, 2021
