POLICE are investigating a man accused of allegedly committing an indecent act in front of a woman who was inside her car in Taman Keladi in Sungai Petani.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said police received a report regarding the incident at about 8pm on Aug 20.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code.

“We urge anyone who knows the suspect or has information about the incident to come forward and assist the investigation.

“Members of the public who encounter similar incidents are also advised to lodge a police report immediately or contact the 999 emergency line,” he said.

The incident came to public attention after a social media post alleged that a man had been loitering around the residential area before allegedly committing the indecent act while the woman remained inside her vehicle.

According to a Facebook post by a Sungai Petani volunteer organisation, the woman had yet to get out of her car when the man allegedly carried out the act in front of the vehicle.

The post also alleged that the man had previously been involved in incidents involving the theft of women’s underwear, although the claim has not been confirmed by police.

The volunteer organisation subsequently urged members of the public, particularly women driving alone, to remain vigilant and be aware of their surroundings.

It also advised anyone who encounters harassment or suspicious behaviour to report it promptly to the authorities.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist the investigation. - August 22, 2026
