Malaysian Meteorological Department says no tsunami threat to Malaysia - August 25, 2026

A WEAK 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck the waters off Batu Pahat, Johor, at 4.12pm today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a post on its Facebook page, MetMalaysia said the earthquake was detected at 1.7° North and 102.8° East, at a depth of 10 kilometres.

“The epicentre was located 104 kilometres northwest of Tanjung Balai-Meral, Indonesia, and 18 kilometres southwest of Batu Pahat, Johor.

“There is no tsunami threat to Malaysia,” it said in the post today. - August 25, 2026
