TWO men, including a government agency chairman, will remain in custody for another three days as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigates alleged abuse of power involving the disposal of eight plots of land in Seberang Perai Selatan.
The two suspects, both Datuks, are a government agency chairman and a company director.
Magistrate Nurhanisah S H Sahul Hamid granted the extension at the Magistrate’s Court here today.
The pair were among five people arrested by MACC last Friday. The other three suspects have since been released.
Lawyer Dr Shamsher Singh Thind, who represents the agency chairman, said MACC had asked for four more days but the court granted a three-day extension.
“The remand starts today and ends on Wednesday,” he told reporters outside the court.
The investigation centres on the sale of eight plots of land in Seberang Perai Selatan in 2015.
The agency chairman is suspected of abusing his position when he was serving as deputy chairman and a board member to approve the sale of the land to a company allegedly linked to his associate.
The land was reportedly sold below market value, with the transaction believed to have caused losses of about RM1.96 million.
The other three suspects previously arrested were a company director, a technical manager and a female clerk.
The suspects were detained separately at the MACC Penang office before being brought to court for remand proceedings.
The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009. – August 24, 2026
