ANTHONY Loke Siew Fook’s resignation as Transport Minister will take effect the moment former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak sets foot in his home to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.

Loke told reporters that his departure from the Cabinet would be immediate upon Najib’s arrival home, reaffirming a commitment he made in September following DAP’s objection to the conditional royal pardon granted to the former prime minister.

The DAP secretary-general had submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Sept 28, but was asked to remain in the Cabinet temporarily.

He subsequently clarified that his resignation would only take effect once Najib physically returned home, rather than when the house arrest order was issued or when he left prison. - November 6, 2026
