FORMER Damansara Member of Parliament Tony Pua has urged Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to audit the RM50 million fund raised by UMNO to pay the fine imposed on Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He stated that such an audit is essential to ensure that all the funds collected are legitimate and not derived from illicit sources.

"More importantly, I call upon BNM and the MACC to audit the money trail into the UMNO donation account set up for Najib, to ensure that all the funds raised are legitimate and not the proceeds of money laundering.

"UMNO claims to have successfully raised RM50 million to bring home Malaysia’s biggest criminal, Najib Razak, so that he may serve his sentence under house arrest," he said in a Facebook post today.

Pua stated that the funds could have been used to help ordinary citizens; instead, the party chose to 'free' Najib.

"UMNO's true colours are now clearly on display," he said.

He also urged Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, or belief, to recognise the true colors of UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN).

This statement follows an announcement by UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki that the party has settled the RM50 million fine, after the 'Najib Razak Solidarity Fund' launched last September reached its target.

Najib has been held at Kajang Prison since August 23, 2022, following his conviction for the misappropriation of RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.

He was originally sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million; however, in January 2024, the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur Pardons Board reduced his sentence to six years in prison and a RM50 million fine.

On September 18, Najib was granted a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028.

This is contingent upon the payment of the RM50 million fine and compliance with other stipulated conditions. – November 6, 2026
