PLUS expects 2.24 million vehicles per day during Deepavali

TRAFFIC on the PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) highway network is expected to reach 2.24 million vehicles per day during the peak travel period for the upcoming Deepavali celebrations on November 8.

According to PLUS, the volume of vehicles on this peak day is projected to increase by 17 per cent compared to the daily average of 1.92 million vehicles.

It noted that on the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2), traffic is expected to rise by 68 per cent to 42,000 vehicles per day, compared to approximately 25,000 on a typical day.

“The increase in traffic is expected to begin on November 5, as people start heading back to their hometowns or travelling to holiday destinations.

“Meanwhile, traffic heading into the Klang Valley is expected to surge on November 9 and 10, as highway users return following the Deepavali and school holidays.

“In light of this, PLUS advises road users to plan their journeys and refer to the MyPLUS Travel Time Advisory (MyPLUS-TTA) to select the most suitable travel times,” it stated.

To facilitate traffic flow, PLUS will activate the 'Smart Lane' at 32 selected locations. This measure allows the emergency lane to be used temporarily as an additional lane, depending on prevailing traffic conditions.

“Highway users are reminded to use the Smart Lane only when it has been activated, to adhere to speed limits, maintain a safe following distance, and follow all signage and instructions from highway personnel.

“The latest traffic information can be obtained via the PLUS app or the @plustrafik X account, while those requiring assistance may contact the PLUSLine at 1-800-88-0000,” it added. – November 5, 2026
