BARISAN Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has dismissed allegations that a BN candidate misused government resources during the Melaka state election campaign, describing the accusations as attempts by rival groups to gain an advantage.
The Deputy Prime Minister said parties should focus on campaigning within the rules rather than raising issues to attack their opponents.
He also questioned the presence of ministers and deputy ministers at events during the 14-day campaign, saying BN could raise similar questions about their appearances.
“If a group feels desperate, it will look for all sorts of excuses and issues, perhaps because it is very desperate. I do not think we need to make a big issue of this,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after the Mara Higher Education and TVET outreach programme organised by Yayasan Pelajaran Mara at Dewan Majlis Perbandaran Jasin Alamanda today.
Zahid was responding to a police report lodged by Pakatan Harapan (PH) against BN candidate for the Rim state seat, Datuk Khaidirah Abu Zahar, over alleged use of government premises and machinery for campaigning.
PKR central leadership council member Siti Aishah Shaik Ismail said the report was lodged by a PH representative at the Jasin district police headquarters yesterday.
She alleged that Khaidirah had attended an event distributing contributions to about 30 recipients in conjunction with Deepavali, adding that photographs and video recordings had been submitted to police. - November 3, 2026
