MALAYSIA will seek further clarification and cooperation from Pakistani authorities over the detention of 130 Malaysians suspected of involvement in a cyber scam operation in Rawalpindi, with the police's commercial crime investigators directed to discuss follow-up action with their counterparts.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he had received the first confirmation of the arrests from his Pakistani counterpart during a telephone call about two weeks ago.

"Two weeks ago, I received a telephone call from my counterpart in Pakistan, informing me that a number of Malaysians suspected of involvement in scam activities had been detained there.

"That was the first confirmation I received about the matter," he said.

Saifuddin said he would review a report from Bukit Aman's Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) before deciding on further action.

Pakistani media had earlier reported that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) raided a premises at KASA Tower, Bahria Town Phase VIII, Rawalpindi.

The raid uncovered a financial scam operation targeting victims in Malaysia, with syndicate members allegedly impersonating bank customer service officers and police personnel, and threatening victims with false claims that they were involved in money laundering.

Separately, Saifuddin said the Home Ministry had yet to discuss appointing a successor to Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain following the decision to return the officer to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

"Not yet. We have not discussed it," he said when asked about plans to fill the position.

On Mohd Shuhaily's service status, Saifuddin said the matter would be handled in accordance with public service regulations following the charges brought against him.

"From the perspective of the civil service, when someone has been charged, there is a system and procedures that must be managed by the public service division," he said after attending a special financial assistance presentation ceremony for taxi, rental car and school bus drivers at Dewan Insaniah, Kompleks Lembaga Zakat Negeri in Alor Setar today.

The Home Ministry had earlier decided to return Mohd Shuhaily, who was serving as AKPS director-general on secondment, to PDRM.

However, an AKPS post on its official Facebook page showed him back at work after taking leave last week, including chairing the Commander's Call Meeting No. 3/2026 today.

Mohd Shuhaily was previously charged with two counts of causing hurt to two police personnel at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Sept 28. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.- November 2, 2026
