AFTER years of delays and repeated changes to its completion timeline, the long-awaited Kota Bharu Integrated Bus Terminal (KB Sentral) may finally become a reality following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of a RM250 million federal allocation for the project.

The terminal has been a longstanding promise in Kelantan, but plans to provide the state capital with a modern bus facility have yet to materialise despite repeated assurances from the PAS-led state government.

The latest announcement offers fresh hope to residents who have waited years for better public transport facilities, while placing renewed scrutiny on the state government’s handling of a project that has remained unresolved for so long.

Anwar made the announcement yesterday after raising the condition of Kelantan’s existing bus terminal, saying he had approved the allocation and written to the Menteri Besar to inform him of the decision.

“The Kelantan Menteri Besar says everything is fine, the schools are fine, the religious schools are fine, but when it comes to the bus terminal, he says it has yet to be upgraded.

“So I have approved it. I have just sent a letter to the Menteri Besar informing him that we have approved the Kota Bharu Sentral integrated bus terminal.

“It is not RM250,000, but RM250 million,” he said.

The announcement puts the next move in focus, particularly the timeline for construction and how the project will be carried out after years of uncertainty.

For Kelantan residents, the RM250 million commitment is significant. But given the history of delays, the real test will be whether the project finally moves into construction and delivers the terminal they have been waiting for. – November 1, 2026
