PAKATAN Harapan (PH) is targeting to win 18 of the 24 seats it is contesting in the Melaka state election, with candidate experience and changing voter sentiment among the key factors behind its confidence.
Melaka PH chairman Adly Zahari said the coalition had assessed three main factors in setting its target: the capabilities of its candidates, the strength of its party machinery and the level of public support in the constituencies.
He said its candidates brought varied experience, including in local authority administration, state and federal government, as well as the public service.
“Some candidates have experience, while others are new but have served in local authorities. There are also those with experience in government administration, including at federal level, as well as former civil servants,” he told a daily PH press conference on Sunday.
Adly, who is also contesting the Bukit Katil state seat, said the coalition had also considered shifts in voter support in the constituencies it would contest.
He said PH would continue engaging voters, listening to their concerns and raising issues that could be addressed through government channels.
Adly stressed that government agencies would continue operating as usual during the election period, and issues requiring immediate attention should be dealt with without waiting for the polls to end.
The election process, he said, should not disrupt the delivery of public services, particularly matters requiring action in stages.
PH is contesting 24 of the 28 state seats, comprising 10 candidates from PKR and seven each from DAP and Amanah. Its target includes retaining the five seats it won previously. - November 1, 2026
