UMNO has paid the RM50 million fine imposed on former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak paving the way for him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest as part of a conditional pardon granted by the King.

Arrangements to settle Najib’s fine took centre stage at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today, with the former prime minister's special officer and lawyer arriving to handle the payment.

Ahmad Lutfi Azhar and Muhammad Farhan Shafee entered the court's payment counter at about 12.10pm.

Farhan was seen carrying a locked black bag as the two proceeded to the Criminal Registry Office.

Their arrival followed UMNO's announcement that its Najib Razak Solidarity Fund had collected sufficient contributions to meet its target, allowing the party to complete payment procedures at the High Court and close the special donation account.

UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the fundraising campaign, launched on Sept 18, had achieved its intended purpose and no further public contributions were required.

"UMNO wishes to announce that the total funds collected through the Najib Razak Solidarity Fund, launched on Sept 18 to assist former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, have reached the target and are sufficient.

"UMNO has completed all payment procedures to the Kuala Lumpur High Court this morning," he said in a statement.

Asyraf also thanked UMNO members nationwide and members of the public for their contributions, falling short of disclosing the exact amount collected.

Najib is serving a prison sentence following his conviction on seven charges involving the misappropriation of RM42 million belonging to SRC International.

In 2024, the Pardons Board reduced his 12-year prison sentence to six years and lowered his fine from RM210 million to RM50 million.

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, subsequently granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of the RM50 million fine and compliance with other stipulated conditions.

Failure to fulfil the conditions could result in the conditional pardon being revoked, requiring him to serve the remainder of his sentence in prison. - November 6, 2026
