THE North-South Expressway is reportedly congested in both directions, particularly for northbound traffic since midnight, ahead of the Deepavali celebrations tomorrow.
Congestion in several areas has also been made worse by accidents and broken-down vehicles.
According to updates from PLUS via the X platform, traffic began to build up as early as 12:04 am on the northbound stretch from Permatang Pauh to Sungai Dua.
“Similar conditions were reported from Slim River to Sungkai, from Sungai Buloh Hospital to the Rawang Rest and Service Area (R&R), from Jasin to Ayer Keroh, from Kulai to Sedenak, and from Skudai to Senai.
“For the southbound direction, congestion was also reported on the North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE) from Bandar Serenia to Bandar Baru Nilai,” said PLUS.
Meanwhile, an accident occurred at Kilometre (KM) 420.7 (northbound) between Bukit Beruntung and Bukit Tagar at 7:31 am today, blocking the emergency lane and causing traffic congestion.
“Several other accidents have also caused traffic disruptions, including one at KM 81 (northbound) from Ayer Hitam to Yong Peng South.
“The left lane was blocked due to the accident, resulting in a seven-kilometre stretch of congestion, which later extended to nine kilometres according to an update at 3:06 am,” it stated.
Additionally, an accident was reported at 3:27 am at KM 354 (northbound) between Slim River and Sungkai, which blocked the right lane and led to traffic congestion.
“However, an update at 4:29 am indicated that the right lane had been reopened; while the emergency lane remains closed, traffic congestion persists,” it added. According to PLUS, other accidents were also reported at KM409.6 (northbound) between Lembah Beringin and Tanjong Malim, as well as at KM315 between Tapah and Gopeng.
“A trailer broke down at KM320.3 (northbound) between Tapah and Gopeng at 3:43 am, obstructing the left lane and causing traffic congestion.
“On the southbound carriageway, accidents were reported at KM227.3 (between Pedas Linggi and Simpang Ampat), KM277.6 (between Bandar Baru Nilai and Bandar Ainsdale), and KM267.2 (between Bandar Ainsdale and Seremban).
“An accident was also reported at KM160 (southbound) between Tangkak and Bukit Gambir, obstructing the emergency lane and causing traffic congestion,” PLUS stated.
Meanwhile, traffic on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway and the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1) was reported to be smooth in both directions as of 7 am today.
“Earlier, congestion was reported on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway at 2:25 am, affecting the eastbound route from Genting Sempah to Bukit Tinggi, and from Bukit Tinggi to Lentang.
“The congestion, stretching for two kilometres and 5.3 kilometres, respectively, was due to an increase in the volume of vehicles. However, traffic has since returned to a smooth flow, based on updates from 2:30 am through 7 am today,” it added. – November 7, 2026
