MOF: Hormuz crisis drives up unsubsidised fuel prices
Global oil supply pressures are intensifying as prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz continues to squeeze supplies - August 26, 2026

MALAYSIA will raise the prices of unsubsidised RON95, RON97 and diesel by five sen a litre from Wednesday, as the prolonged disruption to oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz and continuing geopolitical tensions intensify pressure on global petroleum supplies.

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced today that under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism, RON97 will rise to RM4.30 a litre from RM4.25, while unsubsidised RON95 will increase to RM3.82 from RM3.77 and unsubsidised diesel to RM4.72 from RM4.67 for the period from Aug 27 to Sept 2.

Subsidised prices remain unchanged, with eligible BUDI95 users paying RM1.99 a litre for RON95 and eligible BUDI Diesel users paying RM2.10 a litre. Diesel prices under the Subsidised Diesel Control System, or SKDS, remain at RM2.05 and RM2.15 a litre under their respective categories.

Eligible BUDI MADANI RON95, or BUDI95, recipients will continue to receive a government subsidy of RM1.83 per litre, equivalent to around 48% of the current unsubsidised RON95 price. Eligible BUDI MADANI Diesel users will receive a subsidy of RM2.62 per litre, or 56% of the unsubsidised diesel price.

Eligible Malaysians may continue purchasing subsidised RON95 and diesel using their MyKad, subject to their eligibility and remaining monthly entitlement.

The latest increase comes after global crude prices remained elevated for most of the APM calculation period, with Brent crude staying above US$90 a barrel for much of the previous week. - August 26, 2026
