PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to unveil several measures aimed at addressing issues affecting the public when he delivers his National Day address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) tomorrow.
Anwar said the initiatives would touch on matters of concern to Malaysians and their daily lives.
He urged the public to tune in to the address, which will be carried live across local media platforms.
“I will also announce several important initiatives in this address that touch on the concerns and lives of the people,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Anwar also called on Malaysians to make unity a central part of this year’s National Day celebrations, while rejecting attempts to stir hostility along racial and religious lines.
He said maintaining peace and safeguarding the well-being of the people required Malaysians to resist such attempts.
“Let us enliven this year’s National Day celebrations by strengthening the spirit of unity and rejecting all incitement of hatred between races and religions for the sake of peace and the well-being of the people,” he said.
The Prime Minister added that the celebrations should also serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by earlier generations in securing the country’s independence.
He said Malaysians today should reflect on their own responsibility to preserve the meaning of that independence and ensure it continues to be valued by future generations.
“We remember the struggle and sacrifices of earlier generations who paved the way with sweat, blood and tears, before reflecting on the responsibility of today’s generation to uphold and give meaning to independence,” he said.
Anwar had previously said several important announcements involving the country were expected to be made during the Merdeka Eve celebrations and again in conjunction with Malaysia Day on Sept 16. - August 29, 2026
