PUTRAJAYA – Legal action has been taken against 14 traders for committing offences during the implementation of the Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) for Christmas last year from December 22 to 31, said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
Three of the cases involved selling goods above the ceiling price, 10 involved failure to mark prices and one involved not using pink price labels.
The ministry in a statement here today said that during the period, 11,890 inspections were carried out on business premises nationwide encompassing 458 wholesalers and 11,432 retailers, and involved seizures valued at RM737 as well as compound fines totalling RM1,800.
Nineteen controlled items were gazetted in the SHMMP Christmas 2020 list. This is the 11th year of implementation of the SHMMP since 2009.
The ministry said that during the same period (December 22 to 31), it received only five complaints related to the SHMMP.
“Based on monitoring by the ministry and feedback from the public, SHMMP Christmas 2020 went well and achieved its objectives as planned,” it added. – Bernama, January 6, 2021
