SENIOR PAS leaders attended the 2026 UMNO General Assembly today, signalling renewed engagement between the two parties as efforts to advance the “penyatuan ummah” agenda regain attention.
In the UMNO–PAS context, “penyatuan ummah” literally means “unity of the ummah” — broadly, an effort to unite the Malay-Muslim political community, particularly through greater cooperation between UMNO and PAS.
PAS was represented by its vice-president Datuk Idris Ahmad, secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari and Bachok MP Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman.
Also attending as a special guest of UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was Nik Abduh Nik Aziz.
The presence of the PAS delegation at UMNO’s annual gathering comes amid renewed efforts to strengthen ties between the two parties, which have previously pursued closer cooperation under the penyatuan ummah agenda.
The development is likely to draw attention to the prospects for greater political cooperation between UMNO and PAS, although no formal political arrangement was announced at the assembly.
The UMNO General Assembly is being held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) from Sept 9 to 12.
Earlier today, Zahid led the traditional Sang Saka Bangsa flag-raising ceremony ahead of the assembly’s official opening.
He was accompanied by UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, while members of the UMNO Supreme Council were also present.
The flag-raising marked the start of proceedings, with Ahmad Zahid scheduled to deliver his presidential policy speech during the assembly.- September 11, 2026
