FORMER Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and two former TH officials were remanded for two days to assist in the investigation into a fraud case related to the granting of TH hibah.
The remand order was issued by Sessions Court Judge Mohamad Afiq Zuber, who acted as Magistrate after an application was made by the police.
In the proceedings, apart from Abdul Azeez, also remanded were a man who was the former Chief Executive Officer of TH and a woman who was also the former Chief Financial Officer of TH.
Abdul Azeez, 60, was arrested by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) in Bukit Aman yesterday afternoon before being taken to Dang Wangi police station.
His lawyer, Datuk Abu Bakar Isa Ramat, said Abdul Azeez, 60, was remanded until Thursday to assist in investigations into a fraud case involving hibah.
"The police sought a remand order under Section 420 of the Penal Code," he said.
The Baling MP is believed to have been brought into the court through an internal route, avoiding the media who had been waiting outside since 7 am.
His son, Mohamed Khairul Azman, and several UMNO leaders were also seen at the court complex.
The arrest is linked to investigations into issues raised in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report concerning Tabung Haji.
Abdul Azeez was previously remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for seven days from Aug 26 to assist investigations arising from the RCI findings.
The RCI report, which was made public on July 29, detailed weaknesses in the management and operations of Tabung Haji between 2014 and 2020.
Abdul Azeez served as Tabung Haji chairman from 2014 to 2018.
The latest police investigation comes after the MACC opened investigation papers into several issues highlighted in the RCI report. - September 9, 2026
