A 19-YEAR-OLD woman has been sentenced to six months in prison for offering sexual services for RM150, after repeating the offence despite previously being given a chance to reform through community service.

Nurul Syahfathin Puteri Sofea pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 372B of the Penal Code before Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum at the Magistrates’ Court in Tawau today.

She was accused of offering sexual services through WhatsApp at a rented room on the second floor of Sabindo Flats, Jalan Habib Sheikh, Bandar Sabindo, at about 9.30pm on Oct 20.

According to the facts of the case, an undercover police officer contacted her through WhatsApp before she offered sexual services for RM150.

Police subsequently raided the room and seized two condoms, RM150 in cash and a key.

During the proceedings, the magistrate asked the woman, who was unrepresented, how long she had been involved in the activity. She replied that it was her first time.

Asked why she had resorted to the act at such a young age, she told the court she was desperate to pay overdue rent after losing her job and claimed that her wages had not been paid.

She also told the court that she had previously worked as an assistant at a chicken-wing stall.

However, prosecuting officer Assistant Superintendent Nur Intan Jamrin informed the court that the woman had committed the same offence previously and was charged at the same court on Sept 4 last year.

The court was told that she had then been ordered to perform community service for six months, for four hours a day, and granted bail without a deposit, with a bond of RM1,000.

Don Stiwin reprimanded her for repeating the offence despite having previously been given an opportunity to reform.

“I gave you a chance for six months previously, but you have repeated the same offence.

“You are still young and have already been given a chance, yet you have done it again,” he said.

The court sentenced her to six months’ imprisonment, effective from the date of her arrest. - October 23, 2026
