Anwar: Trust-based dialogue key to lasting peace in Southern Thailand
Malaysia will continue to support efforts to secure a comprehensive and lasting peace in southern Thailand, PM says - October 23, 2026

TRUST-based dialogue remains crucial to achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace in Southern Thailand, with Malaysia committed to playing a constructive role in promoting regional stability, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

He said dialogue grounded in mutual understanding and openness was essential to finding a peaceful solution that would protect the well-being of the people in the conflict-affected region.

Anwar said this in a Facebook post late Thursday after receiving a courtesy call from Malaysia's newly appointed facilitator for the Southern Thailand Peace Dialogue Process, retired Lieutenant-General Datuk Ahmad Norihan Jalal.

In a separate post, Anwar stressed the importance of strengthening civic awareness, national identity and a sense of shared purpose to build a cohesive nation rooted in common history, values and aspirations.

He said these efforts must be intensified, particularly among young people as the country's future leaders.

“Efforts to strengthen civic awareness, national identity and a sense of togetherness must continue to be intensified to build a strong nation rooted in shared history, values and aspirations,” he said.

The statement followed his chairing of a meeting of the Dewan Kenegaraan Governance Board to review the implementation and planning of programmes under the Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia.

The Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia (AKM) is a central government agency under the Prime Minister's Department that coordinates statehood training, patriotism, discipline, and integrity programs under the Malaysia MADANI framework.

Anwar also called for more effective governance to strengthen the planning and implementation of the academy's programmes and ensure shared national values were passed on to future generations. - October 23, 2026
