KOTA TINGGI – Despite staying at a flood evacuation centre, a university student remained steadfast and diligent in pursuing online learning using his laptop.
Rano Amirzad Razalie, 24, a diploma student in mechanical engineering from Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, seemed very eager to follow the online assignments organised by his lecturers.
“I have the equipment at home but because of the floods, I have to be at the evacuation centre, so I had to find the initiative to complete my assignment because the lecturer has set a deadline for it.
“Several lecturers already know (my circumstances) so they understand and have extended the deadline for me to submit my assignments,” said the first-semester student.
His father Razalie Asri could not contain himself when he saw his youngest son still eager to complete his university assignments despite the situation.
“At a time like this, God tests us... I can’t stand to see my son like this. He is eager to learn, and I am touched. He remains enthusiastic, alhamdulillah,” he told Bernama when met at the Kota Tinggi Vocational College relief centre here.
The same feeling is shared by Rano’s mother Norayu Mohd Noh, who is proud to see her son studying despite limited internet access and uncomfortable conditions.
According to her, Rano did not have the opportunity to set foot in his university due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but that did not dampen her son’s spirit in completing assignments and learning online during the flood season.
“Children who are studying online cannot be in classrooms, and this is what he has to face. Fortunately, he has a hotspot and can continue to study,” said his mother while looking at the laptop used by Rano on a box, which has been turned into a makeshift table. – Bernama, January 6, 2021
