A 34-YEAR-OLD woman died after a rafting boat carrying her and five friends overturned at the first rapid of Sungai Pertak here on Saturday.
The woman was thrown from the boat at about noon and later found trapped underwater, with her friends attempting to free her from the obstruction, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said.
“According to the victim’s friends, the rafting boat carrying the victim and five friends overturned and they were thrown from the boat at the first rapid.
“The victim was subsequently found trapped at the bottom of the water and her friends tried to remove her from the obstruction,” JBPM said in a statement.
JBPM received a distress call at 3.52pm, with personnel from the Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue Station arriving at the scene eight minutes later.
Firefighters carried the victim about one kilometre to a safe area near Kem Rimbayu before handing her over to police.
“She was pronounced dead by Health Ministry personnel and taken to the Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital Forensic Unit for further action,” JBPM said.
The operation, involving six firefighters, ended at 6.30pm. - September 20, 2026
