PAKATAN Harapan (PH) has told Barisan Nasional (BN) to make clear whether it wants to cooperate in the coming Melaka state election, with PH saying it will proceed with its preparations if no agreement is forthcoming.
PH Election Director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said PH had no problem with BN choosing not to cooperate, but wanted the coalition to state its position so PH could move ahead with its preparations for the state election, which is expected to be held soon.
“So far, there has been no indication of any (cooperation). I am not sure when the state assembly will be dissolved, but perhaps they are not interested.
“So, we have no problem if they are not interested. Just let us know and we will continue (without BN),” he said after officiating the launch of the PH election machinery in Masjid Tanah, Kuala Sungai Baru, last night.
Amirudin, who is also Selangor Menteri Besar, questioned BN’s position after the coalition had previously been linked to several possible electoral arrangements.
“At first, they said they might go solo, then they said they would go with PAS, and after that they could also go with PH.
“So, perhaps that is to confuse both opponents and friends,” he said.
Amirudin said PH was prepared for several scenarios, including contesting independently, forming a new electoral alignment or cooperating with UMNO/BN.
However, he said PH would not wait for negotiations before preparing for the election, and would continue mobilising its machinery, strengthening its teams and making preparations in areas identified for contesting. - September 21, 2026
