PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he had already been informed of Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook's intention to resign from the cabinet.
“I haven't had the chance to discuss anything yet; I need to hear his views and understand them. He is a man of principle.
"From the very beginning, he objected to rules that created the impression we were weak or lax regarding corruption—especially when we were taking extensive action against various offenders, including petty corruptors," he said.
It was reported yesterday that Loke had offered to resign as Transport Minister following the decision to grant a conditional pardon to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He stated that the decision was made after an emergency meeting of the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC), which lasted nearly three hours starting at 3 pm yesterday.
Anwar explained that he would meet with the Seremban MP after the latter returned from a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Shanghai.
"Not yet (received the resignation letter); he only held the meeting yesterday. He informed me and will bring the letter to discuss with me. I told him, 'It’s fine, we’ll do it when there is a chance.'
"I am here today, then heading to Melaka. If I’m not mistaken, he is going to Shanghai tomorrow... for discussions with Premier Li Qiang on Tuesday," he said.
Two days ago, Najib was granted a conditional pardon, requiring him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine.
This matter was decided during the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya.
According to Loke, while DAP respects the pardoning power of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, the party maintains a stance regarding the decision that is difficult for both DAP and many Malaysians to accept. – September 20, 2026
