NATIONAL development should not be measured solely by the grandeur of skyscrapers, technological advancement, or an influx of investments, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Instead, he stated, it must also be anchored in the cultivation of individuals who are civilised, possess strong moral character, and uphold noble human values.
In this regard, Anwar noted that the effort to build a great nation must begin with the establishment of happy family units.
"The family is the foundation of society and the pillar of a nation’s strength; therefore, the concept of 'Reaching for the Skies, Rooted in the Earth' should serve as a guiding principle in educating the younger generation—enabling them to master technology and new knowledge without neglecting values, civility, compassion, and noble character.
"I am convinced that the effort to build a great nation must begin with building happy families, for it is from the family institution that the generation which will shape the character and future of the nation emerges," said Anwar in a Facebook post on Saturday.
The Prime Minister stated that the 'Madani' Government will continue to strengthen policies and initiatives that prioritise family well-being—including the welfare of mothers and children, care facilities, support for persons with disabilities (OKU), and recognition of the role of caregivers.
Earlier, Anwar officiated the National Family Month 2026 celebration in Shah Alam, Selangor.
The event was also attended by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
At the same time, the Prime Minister commended Nancy and her ministry for the successful organisation of the event, as well as for their steadfast commitment to championing the well-being of women and strengthening the family institution as the cornerstone of societal and national development. – November 8, 2026
