THE application by former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to stay the execution of his sentence for offences involving the misappropriation of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds will be heard on October 14.
Judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin set the date during the case mention today.
“The application has been filed and assigned to me. It was filed with a Certificate of Urgency. Therefore, I am setting a date within two weeks. The parties may exchange counter-arguments at any time during that period before the hearing,” she said.
On December 26, 2025, High Court Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah (now a Federal Court Judge) sentenced Najib to 15 years in prison and imposed fines totalling RM11,387,888,067.05 across all 25 charges involving the misappropriation of 1MDB funds.
Failure to pay the fines could result in an additional 10 years of imprisonment for each charge.
The prison sentence was also ordered to run consecutively, commencing only after the completion of the prison term for the SRC International Sdn. Bhd. funds misappropriation case.
In today's proceedings, Najib was represented by lawyers Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah and Muhamad Farhan Shafee, while the prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam.
Meanwhile, Najib’s daughter, Nooryana Najwa, was seen arriving at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex at approximately 9:50 am with her two sons.
Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, also arrived at the court complex at around 10:30 am.
When asked by reporters when the RM50 million fine—one of the conditions of her father’s conditional pardon—would be paid, Nooryana Najwa simply smiled before briefly replying, "I don’t know."
She was also asked whether the RM50 million sum stipulated for the pardon was sufficient, but she offered no further reaction. – September 25, 2026
