A MAN, believed to be the younger brother of a celebrity accused of involvement in non-Islamic religious rituals, was detained by the authorities earlier this afternoon.

The 21-year-old individual and his 51-year-old mother were detained by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) in Kuala Lumpur.

Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) Director Datuk Mohd. Shahzihan Ahmad said the individual, identified as Aliff Daniel, was detained with his mother following an arrest warrant by the Shah Alam Syariah Lower Court.

“Based on intelligence gathered by JAIS, following the viral case involving the two individuals, the department is expected to summon at least 14 other individuals to assist with the investigation.

“The two suspects are currently being investigated by JAIS under Sections 4 and 10 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995,” he said in a statement.

He advised the public to allow the authorities space to conduct and complete the investigation.

“JAIS views this matter seriously and will ensure that all actions taken are based on jurisdiction, the law, and the facts of the case.

“Accordingly, the public is advised against making any speculations or spreading unverified information,” he stated.

It was earlier reported that coordinated action between state Islamic religious authorities and the police was underway following the viral spread of social media videos allegedly showing Muslims participating in non-Islamic religious rituals.

The Director-General of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee, stated that these measures would be taken in accordance with jurisdiction and prevailing legal provisions.

He added that JAKIM had also forwarded reports regarding the matter to the respective state Islamic religious departments for review and further investigations. – October 13, 2026
