Schools to remain open in 3 states and Putrajaya as haze hits unhealthy levels
Schools in Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Selangor and Putrajaya will operate as usual tomorrow as Education Minister says school closures will follow the National Haze Action Plan - October 15, 2026

SCHOOLS in Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Selangor and Putrajaya will remain open tomorrow despite unhealthy air pollution levels, with the Education Ministry adopting a cautious approach to closures based on the National Haze Action Plan.

The respective state and federal territory education departments said pupils, teachers and school staff were encouraged to wear face masks, while parents concerned about the effects of the haze on their children could keep them at home, provided they informed the school.

In Pahang, Selangor and Putrajaya, all outdoor activities have been suspended because of the haze.

In Negeri Sembilan, outdoor activities, including physical education, sports, co-curricular programmes, camps, celebrations and assemblies, must stop when the Air Pollutant Index (API) exceeds 100.

The departments said any school closure would remain subject to ministry guidelines, API readings and prevailing conditions. - October 15, 2026
