MELAKA police have requested 1,500 additional personnel from other states to reinforce election security, while investigating two reports lodged by DAP leaders over alleged online claims ahead of the state polls.

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said about 3,400 personnel from the state would be deployed, with reinforcements from other states, including Bukit Aman, to be coordinated by the federal police headquarters.

Police would also deploy a special team equipped with closed-circuit television cameras, drones and other equipment to help ensure the election proceeded smoothly, he said.

Separately, Dzulkhairi said the force received two reports from DAP leaders on Oct 14, before candidate nomination, involving allegations circulated online about the party.

The first concerned TikTok content accusing DAP of jeopardising Malay traders’ livelihoods following a proposal to reopen a car-free zone in the city. The content allegedly claimed the move would affect Malay nasi traders.

The second report concerned allegations linking DAP to the operation of a Rohingya religious school.

“Both cases are still under investigation and are being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said.

Dzulkhairi said the reports were lodged to refute allegations considered damaging to DAP’s reputation, but police were continuing their investigations to establish the facts.
