A 36-YEAR-OLD babysitter has been charged with allegedly abusing an eight-month-old girl after the infant was found with multiple injuries at Taman Perling here in September.

Johor Bahru North acting police chief Superintendent Azrol Anuar Nor said police recently detected a Facebook post about the case, which was uploaded by the Khas Penduduk Kulai 'Official' (KPK) account at about 4pm on Saturday.

He said the victim's 35-year-old mother had lodged a police report on Sept 19 after noticing bruises on several parts of her daughter's body.

"Investigations found that the mother noticed the bruises after her husband collected the baby from the babysitter's home in Taman Perling at about 6pm on Sept 18," he said in a statement today.

Azrol Anuar said a team from the Johor Bahru North district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Division arrested the babysitter at about 1.30pm on Sept 19.

Police also seized a rattan stick in Taman Perling to assist investigations.

He said checks found that the suspect had no previous criminal record, while an initial urine screening test was negative for drugs.

The investigation papers were referred to the Johor State Prosecution Director's Office on Sept 23, which directed that the suspect be charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

She was subsequently charged at the Johor Bahru Court on Sept 24.

If convicted, she faces a maximum jail term of 20 years, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both. - November 1, 2026
