ALOR STAR – Police have crippled three syndicates believed to be active in robbery and vehicle thefts, following the arrest of 15 individuals at several locations in the district since last month.
Kulim police chief Azhar Hashim said police have been able to solve 30 cases reported in the district since November, following the arrest of the suspects believed to be members of the “Pali Gang”, “Pak Su Gang” and “Susang Gang”.
In a statement yesterday, he said in the first raid on December 23, police arrested two men, aged 26 and 28, including the leader of Pali Gang, believed to be involved in robberies and car thefts around Lunas.
“Further investigations led to the arrest of another 23-year-old man. With the arrest of these three, police have solved 10 car theft cases and five snatch theft cases using sharp weapons.”
Azhar said in the second raid on December 27, police picked up nine members of the Pak Su Gang in a series of arrests around Kulim. The suspects are allegedly involved in business premises robberies.
“All the suspects, aged between 19 and 35, are believed to be involved in five robbery cases in Padang Serai and Sg Karangan. The leader of the group, known as Pak Su, aged 27, has six past records. He was also detained.
“On Tuesday, police arrested three men, aged between 20 and 36 years, believed to be members of the Susang Gang. They are suspected of robbing working foreign nationals,” he said, adding that police are still looking for the 27-year-old gang leader.
With the arrest of the suspects, Azhar said police believe they have solved 10 robbery cases targeting foreign women.
He said investigations have revealed that the three syndicates used the proceeds of robberies to buy drugs.
All the suspects have been remanded for further investigations under Section 395/397 and Section 379A of the Penal Code. – Bernama, January 8, 2021
