MALAYSIA Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain resumed duties today after taking leave last week, chairing a meeting of senior officers and border commanders.

According to a post on AKPS' official Facebook page, Mohd Shuhaily chaired the Commander's Call Meeting No. 3/2026, which focused on preparations for the agency's 2027 operational plans.

The meeting discussed strengthening strategic direction, operational readiness and the effectiveness of national border control and protection.

AKPS said the meeting also served as a platform to coordinate operations and improve the agency's overall efficiency, with particular emphasis on integrity and security at all national entry points.

It said the discussions reflected the agency's continued efforts to strengthen its strategic agenda and ensure the smooth execution of its responsibilities in facing operational challenges in 2027.

The development comes after the Home Ministry reportedly decided to return Mohd Shuhaily, who was serving as AKPS director-general under a cadre loan arrangement, to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had reportedly confirmed the decision.

On Oct 21, Mohd Shuhaily, 54, pleaded not guilty to two charges of voluntarily causing hurt to two police personnel at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Sept 28.

The charges were brought under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum one-year jail term, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

He was accused of causing hurt to Mohamad Faiz Saman and Muhammad Ekmal Sofwan Dirman near Counter J, Level 5, Terminal 1, KLIA, between 1.27pm and 1.35pm on the same day. - November 2, 2026
