KUALA LUMPUR – Five National Sports Council officials tested positive for Covid-19, results of screening tests revealed yesterday.
The council’s director-general, Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, said the infected are among 75 officials and personnel who underwent screening tests on Tuesday, after seven athletes and another official tested positive during the recent re-registration process for athletes.
“Three of them were involved in the process of handling the athletes’ registration, while the other two are likely to have got infected from elsewhere.”
In a statement yesterday, Shapawi said all those who tested positive are now undergoing quarantine at their respective homes and awaiting further instruction from the Health Ministry.
“The council has also instructed officials who are likely to have had close contact with those infected to observe home-quarantine for 10 days, and undergo screening tests on the ninth day for confirmation of infection.
“After discussing with the ministry, the workplaces of officials who have tested positive will be closed for sanitation, which will be implemented immediately.”
Shapawi assured that all council employees have been reminded to comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and instructions issued by the ministry.
He said the sports body always gives full commitment to compliance with all SOPs set, so that there are no other infections among its staff members, including national athletes. – Bernama, January 8, 2021
