KOTA TINGGI – The floods here have forced furniture traders to auction off their goods at low prices – some as low as RM10 apiece.
Trader Eng Nyok Peng, 52, said she is forced to do so as the items in her shop were damaged in the flooding caused by heavy rains over the past week.
“I have no choice. Rather than not getting anything, it is better to sell them for cheap,” she told Bernama.
She said many pieces of furniture for sale have been damaged, resulting in her suffering losses of between RM70,000 and RM80,000.
Chairs, beds, shoe closets, wardrobes and television racks are among the furniture she is auctioning off.
“I’m selling them for cheap, some as low as RM10 per piece. The sale will be for a month or so,” said Eng, who has been in the business for nine years.
Customer Rizuan Mat Seman, 25, said he does not mind buying the cheap furniture, as the items are still good for use.
“If the damage is not so conspicuous, it can still be used, and with the price being so low, I think it is worth buying.”
For Noratikah Zahid, 31, the auction allows flood victims, especially those who houses were inundated, to replace their furniture without incurring high costs. – Bernama, January 8, 2021
