KOTA KINABALU – Investors from China have shown an interest in the proposed “skytrain” project here, said Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
The Sabah works minister announced the idea in his winding-up speech in the state assembly on December 23 last year.
He had said the metropolitan “skytrain” system, connecting the Kota Kinabalu city centre to 1Borneo Hypermall, was expected to be completed in five years.
The line will be extended at a later stage to link the state capital to Putatan, about 12km away.
There are several investors from China and Hong Kong who have expressed interest in investing in Sabah, including in its agriculture sector, said Bung Moktar.
“We (the ministry) will meet the relevant (Chinese) government-linked companies to attract more foreign investors to Sabah. We must boost our efforts to attract them here to develop the state,” he told a reunion dinner for former Sabah Umno Youth leaders from the 1991 batch.
The state Umno chairman said he is practising the “open door” concept, and welcomes all criticisms, opinions and ideas on development projects for the state.
He called on Umno Youth leaders to set aside politics, and instead, focus on the state’s future.
“There are professional personnel among Umno Youth members, and most are close to the people at the grassroots level. Hence, they should focus on contributing their expertise, in the form of ideas, recommendations and advice. Surely, Sabah will have a brighter future with their help.”
He said the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah state government does not want to repeat the previous administration’s mistakes, adding that it will focus on resolving problems faced by the people. –The Vibes, January 8, 2020
