KUCHING – With the non-stop rain in Siniawan and its proximity to Sg Sarawak Kanan, the town may be the first area in the state’s south to experience flooding, said Datuk Lee Kim Shin.
The state transport minister, in a statement today, urged residents to be alert to the siren from the town’s telemetry station, which will sound when the river hits its danger level.
“The telemetry station acts as an early warning system, with its alarm activated when there is a continuous rise in the water level and the possible risk of flooding.”
He said the Sarawak Rivers Board has been instructed to conduct awareness programmes to educate residents on the station’s functions.
“The aim is to educate them on how to respond if the alarm is triggered.”
The telemetry station in Siniawan is among 22 that have been set up in the Sg Sarawak catchment area. – Bernama, January 8, 2021
