KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia again exceeded the 2,000 Covid-19 infection level after reporting 2,643 positive cases today.

This brings the total positive cases in the country to 131,108, with 25,140 still active.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry reported a total of 2,708 recoveries today.

Selangor recorded the highest number of infections at 1,086 cases, followed by Sabah (401), Johor (298), Kuala Lumpur (282), Kedah (107), Negri Sembilan (88), Perak (80), Penang (75), Malacca (70), Kelantan (49), Terengganu (34), Pahang (28), Putrajaya (20), Sarawak (16), Labuan (6), and Perlis (3).

The Health Ministry also recorded 16 deaths today, all of whom were Malaysians.

Three of the deceased arrived dead at the hospital.

This brings the total number of fatalities in the country due to Covid-19 to 537.

As for clusters, the Health Ministry recorded six new ones today.

The Jalan Klinik Cluster in Klang, Selangor detected 132 cases after a targeted screening of a factory, while the Hevea Construction Cluster in Petaling, recorded 30 infections.

The Bukit Belimbing Cluster, involving Klang and Petaling, had 33 new Covid-19 cases.

The Kauran Cluster in Keningau, Sabah recorded 55 cases after screening was done on individuals with symptoms.

The Kapital Cluster from Lembah Pantai, meanwhile, detected 72 infections.

Setapak Indah Cluster detected 16 new Covid-19 cases.

The Health Ministry also announced that 170 individuals are currently in intensive care units (ICU), of whom 82 require ventilators. – The Vibes, January 8, 2020
