PUTATAN – Over 100,000 foreign workers in Sabah have yet to undergo Covid-19 testing, said state Labour Department director Wan Zukli Wan Setapa.
He said there are 7,578 registered employers in the state hiring 115,157 foreign workers.
“However, only 3,200 foreign workers with 700 employers have undergone testing since December,” he told reporters here today.
He said companies are urged to comply with the mandatory testing directive by February 28.
He said the Labour and Health Departments, and Social Security Organisation (Socso) will conduct operations to ensure all foreign workers in Sabah are tested for the coronavirus.
“If the employer fails to send their foreign workers for screening, they can be penalised under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988, also known as Act 342.”
Each foreign worker who undergoes the screening will be subsidised RM60, and the balance will be borne by the employer.
Screening is being conducted at 78 clinics registered with Socso statewide. – Bernama, January 11, 2021
